Restored after about 100 years!
The Hachiman-cho old 2-chome float was built in the late Edo period and is said to be the oldest float in Hachioji.
It has been completely renovated since 1889 and has been restored for the first time in about 100 years this year.
The float doll is known as the “Symbol of Peace” and is said to have been produced by the sculptor Makita Konosuke, who lives in Hachimancho, in 1819.
The floats and floats dolls are designated Hachioji City’s designated tangible cultural property.
