[八王子まつりをもっと知ろう!]中町・俄屋台(にわかやたい)

俄屋台
This is a Niwaka float of Nakacho.
In the Showa 30’s (around 1955), the Hachioji textile industry was at its peak, and the city was full of activity. The restaurant also prospered, and more than 200 geiko people participated in the “festival”. The floats at the time were called the bottomless floats and there is a roof, but the stage is bottomless, so the crowd of the Geiko called (Tachikata) who are dancers and the province (Jijakata) responsible for music had to dance or play while walking in the enclosure.
